Warshawski & Soliday

A Sun Valley Wedding Story

Leah Warshawski and Todd Soliday

Married February 10, 2013

River Run Lodge

These two snowboarding enthusiasts, who got engaged doing that very sport, got married at the base of beautiful Bald Mountain in Sun Valley. After their two week wedding, they decided to buy a condo in town so they could enjoy “one of the most beautiful places on Earth” year-round!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SUN VALLEY?

Todd has been going to Sun Valley for the last 20 years with friends and family – it has been a long-standing tradition. When we met, he convinced me to come to Sun Valley to play outside and I was hooked! There is so much to do outdoors, the food is incredible, and it seemed like a natural place to invite our family and friends for a destination wedding. We wanted to get married somewhere that people would want to come and stay – not just for the wedding day, but for a week or two. We actually ended up buying a condo in Ketchum right after we got married, on the way to the airport!

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Todd grew up in Montana, Idaho and Seattle. Leah grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and went to college in Hawaii and Japan.

OCCUPATIONS?

We are both freelance filmmakers.

HOW DID YOU MEET?

We met through mutual friends who tried to set us up several times before our first real date.

HOW DID YOU GET ENGAGED?

We got engaged at Mount Hood during a white out. I was still learning how to snowboard, and when we got off the lift, we had vertigo and could not see five feet in front of us. We were both on our knees in the snow waiting for the weather to clear and Todd pulled out a ring from his snowsuit. On the way down the mountain he reminded me “Close your fist tight so you don’t loose the ring!”

NUMBER OF GUESTS?

100

WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING THEME?

“Barn Dance,” “International Travel” (each table was a different country we have been to) and “Mountain Man + Mermaid.”

ANY SPECIAL TRADITIONS?

We incorporated some Jewish traditions such as the “Seven Blessings” – where we asked seven of our friends to create their own blessings and perform them during our ceremony.

SONG THAT YOU WALKED DOWN THE AISLE TO?

“All I Want Is You” performed live by the Random Canyon Growlers.

SONG FOR YOUR FIRST DANCE?

“Waiting for My Real Life To Begin” by Colin Hay.

HOW DID THE NIGHT END?

Um… Is this supposed to be a PG-13 article? 🙂

WHERE WAS YOUR HONEYMOON?

We have not had time to take one yet. We hope to go on a dive trip to Palau in 2014.

WHAT MADE YOUR WEDDING SO SPECIAL?

The best part for us was having our friends and family in Sun Valley for two weeks. Everyone pitched in and cooked dinners, played music, and we all ran into each other on the mountain or around town. It felt special to have all of our favorite people in the same town, and be able to spend quality time with people in Sun Valley instead of only seeing them for the wedding.

WHAT WAS THE BRIDE’S FAVORITE MOMENT?

It’s hard to come up with just one moment. For me, the entire two weeks we spent in Sun Valley for our wedding was incredible, spending quality time with family and friends in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. We are so lucky!

THE GROOM’S?

Todd says, “Completely taking over River Run and making it ours for our family… and every moment in between.”

D.I.Y PROJECTS? GUEST FAVORS?
  • Photo light-boxes for each dinner table with our photos from around the world.
  • Each guest received a travel mug with useful goodies inside – personalized Chapstick, hand-warmers, hot cocoa and a wedding week schedule.
  • We asked all the guests to sign an old snowboard that we now display in our Ketchum condo.
  • Todd created a special drink called “Leah-Sangria” that we made available for all guests – it was a big hit.
