SENIOR EDITOR
National award-winning publishing company in Sun Valley, Idaho, is seeking a highly motivated part-time editor to join our team. For over 50 years, Sun Valley Magazine and our affiliated publications have been celebrating the best of life in the Sun Valley area with in-depth, thoughtful articles and arresting artistic design.
We are seeking an experienced, organized and dynamic individual ready to play a pivotal role in shaping the editorial strategy and guiding the editorial process, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity. Working closely with the publisher and art team, this role is responsible for leading editorial initiatives and managing our editorial process in creating and maintaining exceptional and robust reporting and writing that resonates with our target audience. This includes developing editorial calendars, overseeing a team of freelancers, tracking editorial, proofreading, editing, and delivering content in fresh and creative ways as we continue to grow both readership and subscribers.
The ideal candidate will have professional experience in leading an editorial team across web, print and social. We are seeking a leader who is highly creative, bold in their leadership approach, detail-oriented and a team player, with a growth mindset and solid experience working in media.
Basic Responsibilities include:
- Assist with brainstorming for future project ideas, storyline development and research as needed.
- Cultivate new freelancer writers.
- Manage writer database, contacts and bios in conjunction with editorial team.
- Develop and maintain run sheets to track each magazine through the process in conjunction with editorial team, providing continual Team Updates as magazine storyline evolves.
- Maintain editorial standards, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and aligns with the company’s brand and voice.
- Lead, inspire, and manage a small team of writers, editors, and photographers, and engage with designers. Provide mentorship, feedback, and support for team members’ professional growth.
- Develop and manage an editorial calendar to ensure timely and consistent content publication.
- Assign magazine issue stories and coordinate with freelance writers on submission, formatting, word counts, editing and fact checking or rewrites.
- Work closely with marketing, social, design, and other teams to integrate editorial efforts into the overall editorial and marketing strategy.
Requirements:
o 4+ years professional experience in content marketing, journalism or editing
o People-first leader with a passion for learning, teaching, and building teams
o Experience establishing editorial calendars
o Ability to be an astute copy editor and to develop a robust sourcing model
o Experience managing a writing and reporting team
o Demonstrated writing and editing ability across a variety of formats
o Must have long-standing experience with, or live in/nearby, Blaine County, Idaho
o Proven track record for being a solution-oriented strategic thinker, self-starter, and creative collaborator
o Active problem-solver with strong decision-making capability
o Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
o Highly organized
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills
