Perched at 7,700 feet high, on the famous Bald Mountain peak in Sun Valley, Betsy Braack and Andrew Weil said their "I do's" against the dramatic backdrop at Roundhouse Lodge. With an appetizer and cocktail hour on the deck, followed by a night of fun at the River Run Lodge, this happy couple showed their guests exactly why they love Sun Valley, Idaho.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SUN VALLEY?
Andy has been coming to Sun Valley with his family since he was young, and he and Betsy have come here since they started dating. We absolutely love both summers and winters in Sun Valley and wanted our friends and family to see why we love it so much.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Betsy is originally from Eldridge, Iowa, and although Andy was born in Highland Park, Illinois, he was raised in Andover, Massachusetts. We have both lived in the Chicago area for over 20 years, and we now live in Wilmette, Illinois.
OCCUPATIONS?
Andy is an attorney with DLA Piper in Chicago, and Betsy is a retired lawyer and bakery owner.
HOW DID YOU MEET?
We worked at the same law firm in the mid ‘90s, but we didn’t actually know each other while we worked there. It wasn’t until February 2009 when Betsy was out to dinner with a friend to celebrate her birthday and Andy was out to dinner with a friend as well that we recognized each other and began talking. Soon thereafter, we were dating.
HOW DID YOU GET ENGAGED?
Andy took me back to the restaurant where we had re-met and proposed during dinner. We then flew to Sun Valley the next day for a ski vacation.

HOW DID THE NIGHT END?
An antique Rolls Royce drove us to Knob Hill Inn after the festivities ended.
WHERE WAS YOUR HONEYMOON?
Sydney and Lizard Island, Australia.
WHAT MADE YOUR WEDDING SO SPECIAL?
Having the guests arrive and take the gondola to the Roundhouse Lodge for the ceremony.
WHAT WAS THE BRIDE’S FAVORITE MOMENT?
Owning a bakery, I had all of my cookies made at my bakery and flown out for the wedding. We had antique cookie jars and antique milk bottles with straws. After some intense dancing, the cookie bar was put out and it was so much fun to watch our guests attack the cookies and milk.
THE GROOM’S?
The views from the ceremony on the mountain were spectacular. People are still talking about it.
D.I.Y PROJECTS? GUEST FAVORS?
I had special Sun Valley tote bags made with one of the antique Sun Valley postcards imprinted on the front. In addition, I had plastic reusable water sports bottles made with the Sun Valley logo and our names and wedding date on them. Each guest checking into the Sun Valley Resort got a canvas Sun Valley tote bag filled with a Sun Valley reusable water bottle for when they hiked or biked, more desserts from Betsy’s bakery, heart-shaped measuring spoons (just in case somebody wanted to bake like Betsy), Sun Valley postcards to send home and extra snacks and Sun Valley information.
