Caught on Tape

As the big day draws nearer and nearer, some of my fears about the wedding are getting more and more real, I keep hearing things like, "The whole things just goes by so quickly," or "It goes so fast you wont even remember it," or "You won’t even have time to eat your dinner!".

This has me in a total panic, no only because I could possibly have fretted uselessly over every detail, but also because if I don’t have time to eat, how on earth will I have time to drink??

It’s been brought to my attention that I won’t be able to make it to the bar without being stopped by at least 5 great aunts who will pinch my cheeks, squeeze me to the point of vomiting (this literally happened to a girlfriend of mine) and who will want to hear all about what I’ve been up to the last 15 years.

The point of the story seems to be that I’m going to end up stone cold sober the entire evening dressed like a meringue pie, surrounded by the product of a years worth of annoying decisions, pointless arguments, and copious amounts of money spent?

WOW . . . What a delightful thought.

So per some incredibly sound advice, I’ve delegated a few bridesmaids to make sure the drinks make it to me throughout the evening – stiff and often. I was advised to make sure one bridesmaid was in charge of this, but I’m not taking any chances here. I’ve enlisted three and have ordered a garter belt (aka flask holster) that will be locked and loaded.

But in all seriousness, it’s a horrible thought to have spent so much time and energy for one day, and then not remember it (whether drunk or not)! And I’ve come to realize that nothing can capture the excitement and emotion like a great wedding video, and if my bridesmaids prove TOO successful in the drink duties, I might REALLY need video documentation to help jog my memory.

I’ve seen a recurring theme in my wedding research and a huge percentage of brides say that their biggest regret was not hiring a videographer. It was becoming more and more apparent to Chatham and I that we would become a part of that statistic if we didn’t find a videographer asap. We wanted someone that would really "gets us" and who would document our day in a way that would really reflect our personalities.

Shortly after coming to this realization I serendipitously met Meredith Richardson. Meredith loves all things mountains (a girl after my own heart), she’s funny, energetic, enthusiastic and I am just so excited to share her talent with you all. Meredith is a seasoned videographer and her resume boasts some amazing coverage for ESPN. She was thrilled by the idea of shooting our wedding and I was thrilled by the idea that she wanted to!

She has come up with some great ideas for our video, including guest interviews, which I love. It can be hard to make all the rounds during the reception, so it will be great to be able to look back and listen to everyone giving well wishes, versus only being able to flip through a guest book. I know this video will be a keepsake we’ll treasure forever and I can’t wait to spend anniversary’s re-living all the special moments of the day. I also love the idea of being able to share our wedding with our grand-kids. I haven’t read about one bride who regretted hiring a videographer, and I know I won’t either!!
