Where can you find a shark, race car, sphinx, grandma’s slipper and a batmobile all in one snowy place? Rotarun's Snow Box Derby, of course!
Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Hailey, Rotarun Ski Area hosted its annual SNOW Box Derby this weekend under some epic Sun Valley sun and featuring some epic creations and even more epic crashes!
With around 20 snow box entries, it was a great event benefitting the ski area. Prizes were awarded for speed, creativity and most inspirational. The Kid's Fastest Award went to 11 year-old Kai Younger and her "Sphinx 3000" which finished in a speedy 12.24 seconds! Second and third went to Thea Kraft with "Engine #1" and Ella Guy with "The Roxy Taxi." Ella's taxi, with the help of her snow box designer, Amanda De La Rosa, also won Most Creative of the day. Oliver Gui won for Most Inspirational Run with his "D.S. Oliver" and the fastest adult was Rosco de Lora in "Grandma's Slipper."
It was a day filled with family fun on Hailey's small, mellow and friendly snow hill. Photographer Nils Ribi spent the afternoon catching all the action and helping us all become believers of the mantra, "Bomb hills, not countries!".
