The Wave: Author Susan Casey examines the science and stories behind rogue waves while searching for an explanation to how these ocean beasts form. The New York Times review explains, “Casey makes a convincing, entertaining case (nifty cliffhangers and all) that there is a heretofore little-known monster in our midst,” and continues to praise the book for its vivid narratives. “The Wave” is available at Iconoclast Books for $27.95.
Unbroken: Laura Hillenbrand, the author of “Seabiscuit” takes readers back in time to follow the experiences of American Olympic athlete and World War II prisoner of war Louis Zamperini. The LA Times said, “Hillenbrand’s vivid accounts of battles, technological advances such as the top-secret Norden bombsight, explanations of Japanese policy toward POWs (including a "kill-all" order at war’s end) as well as her footnotes and acknowledgments detailing her research are all worthy of careful reading. But it is the tension of Zamperini’s fight to live in barbaric conditions that makes ‘Unbroken’ so disturbing and thrilling.” “Unbroken” is available at Iconoclast Books for $27.
Life: Keith Richards’s autobiography has made it onto most notable book lists for 2010. Whether its because of Richards’s ability to provide an honest look into the drugged-up and strung-out lifestyle of a rock-n-roll star or to explain the inspirations behind music that defined a time period, The Guardian describes “Life” as “one of the predominant narratives of our time.” Purchase “Life” at Iconoclast Books for $29.99.
