It’s the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival in Bethel, N.Y. Imagine that. I was too young to go, sadly, but was very aware of the older, hippie siblings of my friends who headed off to the weekend-long concert. Since then, weekend-long concerts have become the norm. Last night, Elkhorn Concerts presented the high-energy Southern songsters Drive By Truckers. While not a multi-day binge, it was a party nonetheless. And more are on the way—A Ladies’ Night in Bellevue, a nightlong Relay for Life, the Donovan Frankenreiter concert in Ketchum, and an upcoming Don Felder concert. Pack your fleece, but bring the sun screen, just in case.

- The new exhibition that opens today at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts takes a look at West Coast artists Mary Henry (1913–2009) and Helen Lundeberg (1908–1999). The show takes an eye toward not only illuminating the parallels between the women’s work, but also the meandering path of modernism in the 20th century. There will be more than 40 paintings, drawings and lithographs in the exhibition.
- Families can join the Shooting Star Sleepout with Environmental Resource Center, at 4 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday. There will be games, activities and, naturally, star-gazing. The cost is $50/family and includes meals. For more information and to register call the ERC 726-4333.
- The 2009 Relay for Life will be held at Wood River High School begins this afternoon and running through Saturday morning. Families and friends camp out on the football field, listen to live music all night and take turns walking or running around the track. Relay for Life brings people together for the common goal of eliminating cancer by raising money to fight cancer, and by raising awareness of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and patient support. - The city of Bellevue will have a community picnic, barbecue and ribbon cutting for the newly improved Bellevue City Park from 6-8:30pm on Friday. Burgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided for this family event, but guests are invited to bring additional dishes to share with the community. Following the picnic will be a showing of "Stop Look & Laugh," a compilation of Three Stooges shorts films.
- Ladies Night will be held Friday, Aug. 14 at Milana Resturant and Wine Bar, North Main Street in Bellevue with specials on sangria and tapas and a chance for women to gather in a "sensual sanctuary," said organizors Milana owner/chef Rebecca Austin and Dayle Ohlau of DAO Communications and Yoga. - Sponsored by the Toy Store of Ketchum and Hailey, the 29th Annual Doll Buggy Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Sun Valley Inn. Fairies costumes will be available.
- The Sun Valley Center will present summer time sounds of Donavon Frankenreiter (www.donavonf.com) and Mishka (www.mishka.com) at Atkinson Park in Ketchum. Both bands are playing full sets with Mishka opening at 6 p.m. Two shows for $30 or $10 for kids. Bring picnics and coolers or check out the vendors for food or drinks. - The Sun Valley Summer Ice Show will feature performers Kimberly Navarro and Brent Bommentre, the 2008 United States Bronze Medalists. - Head up to Redfish Lake for a lovely day on the beach, and stay for free live music at the Lodge. Music from Stanley will present Poke, at 4 p.m. The band plays old-style country, hillbilly, rockabilly, and country-jazz.
