Sun Valley Lodge Sun Room and The Roundhouse

This February Sarah and John had the best ski weekend of their lives. Bringing only their closest family and friends, these ski bums wed in a traditional and magical Sun Valley winter wedding. They danced in ski boots, took the gondola to the Roundhosue for dinner, enjoyed a classic Sun Valley sleigh ride and spent the weekend on the hill with each other and their loved ones. Sound like the perfect weekend and an even more perfect wedding? We sure think so!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS LOCATION?

Sarah is a skier and John is a boarder and what a better place to have a wedding then Sun Valley!  Our wedding weekend was actually a ski weekend with a wedding tucked in on Saturday.   Sun Valley Lodge IS Sun Valley.  There is so much history surrounding it.  It makes you feel so special that you are also creating your own history there.  And what a better place to have dinner then on the mountain for a pair of ski bums?

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Sarah is from Northeast Pennsylvania and John is from Eagle, Idaho.

OCCUPATIONS?

Sarah is a Pharmacist and John is an Assistant Manager.

HOW DID YOU MEET?

We both work for Walgreen’s and our paths crossed when John was transferred to the same store where Sarah works.  John was then transferred to another store, we started dating and the rest is history.

HOW DID YOU GET ENGAGED?

We never really were considered “engaged”.  We just knew this was it and decided to get married.

NUMBER OF GUESTS?

11.

WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING THEME?

Family Ski Weekend.

ANY CULTURAL TRADITIONS?

Sarah used her mom’s veil for the ceremony.  We were going to cut it up and incorporate into the wedding but it was just too pretty and they don’t make them like that anymore.  We also tied a ring from each of our grandmothers to the flower bouquets to keep them close to us during the ceremony.

SONG THAT YOU WALKED DOWN THE AISLE TO?

Canon in D.

SONG FOR YOUR FIRST DANCE?

“Dream Girl” by the Dave Matthews Band.

HOW DID THE NIGHT END?

After dinner the family returned to our suite at Sun Valley Lodge, partied and played a rambunctious game of Catch Phrase.

WHERE WAS YOUR HONEYMOON?

In July we are headed to Venice, Florence and Rome.

WHAT MADE YOUR WEDDING SO SPECIAL?

Getting both families together for the four-day weekend.  It was a small, private moment with the most important people in our lives, our family.  Making it a long weekend together gave us some of the most memorable moments of our lives.

WHAT WAS THE BRIDE’S FAVORITE MOMENT?

My favorite moment was placing the ring on John’s finger and thinking we are now bound and one together.

THE GROOM’S?

While taking photos I was standing behind the photographer taking picture of Sarah and thinking, “Wow, that’s my wife.”

D.I.Y PROJECTS? GUEST FAVORS?

We had champagne flutes made with our monogram and wedding date on them for everyone for the champagne toast.  We also had a “sippy” cup made for our three-year-old niece.

TIPS FOR SOMEONE PLANNING A SUN VALLEY WEDDING?

Just go ahead and do it.  Sun Valley has so much to offer and lots of people to help out.  From the simplest to the most extravagant wedding, it can be done in Sun Valley.  Also, don’t count out a winter wedding.  It is magic and absolutely beautiful in the winter!  It is not as busy as the summer wedding season and you don’t have to book venues as far out if your short on time.
