The Valley Club

Sun Valley has been a special place to Ashley and Scott since they met on the River Run Gondola. Bringing their friends and family together, many of whom who had never been to the Sun Valley area, proved to be a special and fantastic weekend, complete with cooperation from Mother Nature. With the perfect weather, the awesome local vendors, a unique rehearsal dinner at the Kneadery and the special celebration of their love, Ashley and Scott’s Valley Club wedding, is one for the ages.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

The bride, Ashley is from San Diego and the groom, Scott is from Hailey.

OCCUPATIONS?

Ashley is a Regional Sales Manager and Scott is a Program Manager at Eye Safety Systems and a Volunteer Firefighter at the Ketchum Fire Department.

HOW DID YOU MEET?

A mutual friend introduced us when Ashley was up visiting. We met on the gondola during a ski/snowboarding day.

HOW DID YOU GET ENGAGED?

It was on Christmas Eve in Mill Valley at Ashley’s sister’s house.  Scott had plans to go on a romantic walk and pop the question.  Ashley wanted to cook with her sisters so Scott had to come up with a Plan B.  He asked Ashley to check out the neighbor’s house (there really was nothing exciting to see) in order to have a private moment without the entire family.  He got down on one knee and asked the question.  The moment was perfect complete with deer in the neighbor’s yard with us to witness the event.  We are very happy the neighbors were not home at the time.

NUMBER OF GUESTS?

100.

WEDDING THEME?

Mountain Elegant.

SONG THAT YOU WALKED DOWN THE AISLE TO?

“Trumpet Voluntary” Purcell.

FIRST DANCE?

“Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat.  We had a great dance prepared to surprise the guests.

HOW DID THE NIGHT END?

Because Scott is a volunteer firefighter, the chief of the Ketchum Fire Department picked us up in a fire truck (KRFD Engine 2) and drove us from the Valley Club to the after party at the Duchin Room at the Sun Valley Lodge.  It was amazing.

WHERE WAS YOUR HONEYMOON?

We went to Barcelona, Granada, Sevilla and Madrid.

WHAT MADE YOUR WEDDING SO SPECIAL?

Since Sun Valley was where we met it seemed only fitting that this was where we got married.  We were lucky with the weather throughout the weekend. It was so special to celebrate with all of our friends and family and introduce them to the place that had been so special to Scott for 17 years and more recently had been such a big part of us falling in love. The rehearsal dinner at the Kneadery was an absolute highlight.  It was such a different environment from the wedding at the Valley Club and was intimate and touching.  The food was fabulous and it was the perfect place to have the rehearsal dinner.  According to the staff there, ours was the last rehearsal dinner they will be hosting at the Kneadery so we sent them out with a bang.

COLOR PALETTE?

Bright fall colors – Bright orange, reds, yellows, gold and brown.

HOW DID YOU DECIDE YOUR MENU?

At the wedding we chose Chicken Picatta, which is a favorite of Ashley’s.  We also added a variety of appetizers including tuna tartar, pulled pork puffed pastry, goat cheese and roasted red pepper crostini, & pancetta wrapped shrimp…actually, they are all our favorites.

D.I.Y PROJECTS?

We made the guestbook that had our engagement pictures on the opposing pages from the signing pages.  We also made all of the place cards, menus and programs.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

It was definitely planning a wedding when you are not there and doing it all via email and phone.

TIPS FOR SOMEONE PLANNING A SUN VALLEY WEDDING?

Use local vendors and get your locations booked as soon as possible. I would highly recommend getting a wedding coordinator to help with the planning and coordinate with the other vendors. Trust the local professionals to do what they do best…this is a resort town so although there is not the selection you might find in large cities, they are extremely professional and knowledgeable, and are used to catering to high-end clients as well as the average couple.  The fact that they are so specialized in Sun Valley is a HUGE benefit.
