St. Thomas Episcopal Church and Sun Valley River Run Lodge

Daneille Luber and Lucas Van Arsdale had an Irish-style, St. Patrick’s Day wedding in the middle of a Sun Valley winter. Combining the beauty of the snow-capped surroundings with the traditions of old Ireland, Danielle and Luke celebrated the night away at River Run Lodge with pizza and Irish car bombs after a beautiful ceremony at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SUN VALLEY?

I am originally from Sun Valley, and it has always been a very special place for me and my family. Also, my husband and I both love skiing and the mountains and really wanted to have a winter wedding in a ski town.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Aspen, Colorado

OCCUPATIONS?

We are both attorneys.

HOW DID YOU MEET?

We met our first day of law school. Luke noticed me when I walked into class late after accidentally going to the wrong classroom.

HOW DID YOU GET ENGAGED?

Luke was planning to propose on top of Aspen Highlands ski mountain on the last day of ski season. However, on the day that he picked up the ring he decided that he could not wait. He surprised me at work with a bottle of champagne and got down on one knee. We went out and celebrated with a night out on the town with friends that evening.

NUMBER OF GUESTS?

135

WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING THEME?

Winter ski lodge meets Saint Patrick’s Day.

ANY SPECIAL TRADITIONS?

I wore the same earnings that my mom wore on her wedding day. I hope that my younger sisters wear them when they get married as well.

SONG THAT YOU WALKED DOWN THE AISLE TO?

“The Prince of Denmark’s March” by Jeremiah Clarke

SONG FOR YOUR FIRST DANCE?

“Your Song” by Elton John

HOW DID THE NIGHT END?

We brought out pizzas as a late-night snack for our guests and kept the dance party going late.

WHERE WAS YOUR HONEYMOON?

Costa Rica

WHAT MADE YOUR WEDDING SO SPECIAL?

I am sure that all brides say this, but it was amazing to celebrate such an important moment in our lives with so many close friends and family members. Also, we got blessed with very snowy Idaho March weekend. All the fresh snow made the setting extraordinarily beautiful, and my husband loves it that he got to ski on the morning of our wedding day!

WHAT WAS THE BRIDE’S FAVORITE MOMENT?

When my sisters pulled me up on stage to sing and dance with the band.

THE GROOM’S?

Luke loved when we drove from the church to the reception in my dad’s ‘69 Chevy Impala.

D.I.Y PROJECTS? GUEST FAVORS?

We had a table covered with glass jars full of old fashioned candies for guests to take home. Luke and I decorated the candy bags with fun ski and St. Patty’s Day stamps. Also, we made our seating chart by naming the tables after different ski resorts that have special meaning to Luke and me. We spent many hours scouring the internet for vintage postcards from the various resorts to place on the tables.

TIPS FOR SOMEONE PLANNING A SUN VALLEY WEDDING?

Do not plan too many wedding events, because Sun Valley is an amazing place to visit with so much to offer.
