It's official. Winter is here for six more weeks. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning and thank Ullr he did, beacuse we still need some snow in these hills. Don't get us wrong, the skiing is great, Baldy is skiing awesome and the Nordic skiing, like always, is off the hook! And in order to share all our awesome cross-country culture with the rest of the world, this week (along with the Super Bowl) we are celebrating the Sun Valley Nordic Festival and the 37th Annual SWIX Boulder Mountain Tour.

So strap on some skinny skis, head to the Downtown Jam and Sprints tonight, check out the Boulder Mountain Tour on Saturday or check out some of the Snowboarding action on Dollar, and celebrate because winter is here to stay!


Snowboard Competitions: SVSEF Hosts Boardercross, Slopestyle and Halfpipe

Following on the heels of a very successful freestyle event weekend, the SVSEF Snowboard team will be hosting three days of events at Dollar Mountain as part of the Intermountain Snowboard Series.  Don’t miss your chance to check out some of the best snowboarders in the region compete in Boardercross, Slopestyle and Halfpipe events on our very own, awesome Dollar Mountain. AND it is the ONLY home snowboard event of the entire season!!

When: This Friday, Saturday and Sunday! February 3rd-5th.
Where: Dollar Mountain

Sun Valley Nordic Festival: Downtown Jam and Nordic Town USA Sprints

Join us in NordicTown USA TONIGHT across the street from the post office for free live music, world class Nordic ski racing, kids races and a snowshoe dance competition! Make sure to check out the winter artwork, warm up by the bonfire, and grab some refreshments: beer, wine, chili, pizza, hot cocoa, and more!

When: Tonight! Festivities starts at 4:00 PM!
Where: The big lot across from the Ketchum Post Office.
Info: Racing starts at 4pm, and the final sprint elite competition starts at 5:45. The band, Tim Snider and Sound Society, starts at 5:30!


Sun Valley Nordic Festival: The 37th Annual Boulder Mountain Tour

Don't miss the event that started it all, the longest running and most respected cross-country ski race, the 37th Annual SWIX Boulder Mountain Tour.  The race traverses the spectacular Boulder Mountains for 32 kilometers of breath-taking beauty and world-class competition. 

When: Saturday, February 4th. Race starts at 10:00 AM.
Where: Start is at the Galena Lodge.

Banff Mountain Film Festival

The Banff Mountain Film Festival will showcase over 15 mountain films and raffle off prizes including skis, snowshoes, clothing, avalanche gear, an overnight stay at a Sun Valley Trekking Yurt, and gift certificates to local business.

All proceeds from the film festival support The Sawtooth National Forest Avalanche Center and the Satipo Kids Project.

When: Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th at 7:00 PM.
Where: The NexStage Theater, Main Street, Ketchum.

Super Bowl SUNDAY: Where are YOU Watching??

There are tons of awesome places to watch the Super Bowl in the Valley, but don’t forget about everybody’s favorite, Lefty’s Bar and Grill.

Their doors open at 11:00 AM and this year, they will be serving up their great "Pound of Wings" for half price, Elk Burgers, Happy Hour Draft Specials on everything, and new Bud Lite Platinum Bottles for $2.00.  And their six HD TV’s make it perfect for viewing!

When: Super Bowl Sunday! Doors open at 11:00 AM.
